Each October Wesley Grove UMC celebrates Christian Education Sunday during our 11:00 worship service where we recognize our Sunday School and Pre-School teachers who take on the important task of educating our children. Pre-school students also attend the service and showcase some of the latest songs and dances they have learned. With intentional learning and Christian formation, we become the people God calls us to be, and we develop gifts and strengths for encouraging and leading others to the same strong faith.
After the worship service the Young Adults host a Pre-k picnic afterwards to kick off the new school year and welcome new and returning families to our church. It’s also a time where church members can mingle with the Pre-k members in order to formulate meaningful relationships. The menu and theme changes each year:
- Outdoor picnic with burgers, dogs, pasta salads, and more where the founder of the Pre-k was invited to speak
- Indoor picnic with BBQ, cole slaw, and more where a face painter and the local fire station made an appearance. In addition we had a “Where Are They Now?” theme where we explored the many accomplishments of previous pre-school graduates over the years
- Indoor brunch with breakfast casseroles and a pancake bar
Despite the varying food and activities of our pre-k picnics, the one thing that remains constant is the wonderful fellowship that is had by all!
